Torresian Crow
48-53 cm. Resembles Australian Raven, but call differs, and on alighting, bird characteristically lifts and shuffles wings. In wind, adults show snow-white down at base of feathers on head/neck. Immature: duller black, brownish nape; eye brown in first year, then hazel; white in third year. In c. Aust./WA, where it overlaps Little Crow, occurs mostly in pairs or small parties (though the two form mixed foraging flocks). In coastal n. and e. Aust., in Non-breeding season, forms flocks in cultivated lands, towns, abattoirs, rubbish dumps; pest in crops of grain, peanuts, fruit. In flight, wings rounder, tail shorter, looks smaller, more agile than Australian Raven. Like Little Crow, flight display includes undulating 'shooting', in which bird misses wingbeat, keeps wings to sides, uttering a single 'uk'.
